Many individuals (women in particular) seek out treatments with injectable fillers each and every year. These fillers are helpful when it comes to reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, as well as smoothing out scars and helping you retain a youthful appearance. But did you know that there are actually many things that you can and cannot do after getting fillers that you might not even consider before and after having these treatments done? In fact, it is important to do plenty of research, as it can actually damage your body’s healing after getting these fillers. It can also cause your fillers to not last as long, so it is very important for you to remember the proper aftercare following your fillers.

What Are Fillers?

Fillers are injectables that can be done in varying areas of the body, although the face and lips are typically the most popular locations for fillers to be used. These injectables are great for making the face and lips appear fuller, as well as smoothing out lines and wrinkles that you may find in certain areas there – such as those around the lips or between the eyebrows. There are different types of fillers, and they are used for different areas. For example, Vobella is a type of filler that is used on the lips, while Botox is an injectable that can be used for certain areas of the face.

Things You Should Avoid After Fillers

After fillers, there are certain things that you should avoid. These can not only help to prolong the filers and give you the best possible effects, but they can also help prevent infection and keep you healthy.

Exercise

While exercise is great for you and your body, it is important to avoid exercise for about twenty-four hours following fillers. Since exercise is known to increase blood flow to all areas of the body, it can cause the ingredients in the fillers to actually move to areas of the face and body that weren’t originally intended to be the targets of the fillers. It can also cause the fillers to be less effective since they are essentially spreading out through other areas.

Makeup

While you may be tempted to wear makeup immediately following a procedure using injectables, it is important that you avoid it and leave off makeup for at least twenty-four hours. Makeup can not only cause your fillers to spread over other areas of your face (because of the pressure and touching involved with applying makeup), but it can also come in contact with the injection sites, and potentially cause infection. So stay bare-faced for a day or two – you’ll be glad you did!

Alcohol

If you’re tempted to get fillers (especially Botox) immediately before a party or social gathering where you are likely to partake in alcohol consumption, you may wish to reschedule either the outing or the procedure. Alcohol and fillers don’t mix during the first twenty-four hours following the injections. Alcohol increases the likelihood of bruising from the injections, so you may wish to hold off.

The Sun

When it comes to your skin, you should already be protecting it from the sun as much as you can. When you have fillers, however, it is even more important to stay out of the sun, especially during the first four hours.

Avoid More Skin Treatments

It is important to note that following treatments involving fillers, you should avoid getting any kind of additional skin treatment – even including sauna and spa trips that involve any pressure, touching, or heat application to the areas of your fillers.

Sleeping on Treated Areas

It is important to avoid sleeping or lying on areas that have been treated with fillers. Due to the pressure, it can spread the fillers around, and this can cause uneven results.
